Making dream smile a reality
At TruSmile Family Dental, your children’s smiles are important to us! We keep kids happy and healthy by focusing on providing exceptional service to promote bigger, brighter smiles. Our goal is to provide a pleasant and positive experience for both you and your children while focusing on your specific needs.
Based on recommendations of The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), we highly recommend that you bring your child to a dentist as soon as you see their first tooth, or by age 1. By seeing children at an early age, we are able to check the gums, jaws, and any primary teeth that have erupted to ensure everything is developing as expected. More importantly, it allows us to speak with you about diet, hygiene, and prevention. Children that begin early with their dental care tend to develop much better oral hygiene habits and have lower rates of decay. This is accomplished because children become more familiar and comfortable in a dental setting and adopt an oral hygiene routine at a young age, parents have a source of contact when in need of any help, and we may provide early intervention so areas of concern do not become major problems later.
We understand that infants and toddlers may become distressed when taken away from their primary caregiver, so we always encourage you to bring your child back to the exam room and keep him/her with you the entire time.
At the first visit, We will gently examine your child’s mouth, including teeth and gums. X-rays may or may not be taken based on their needs and per your permission. We may clean your child’s teeth to remove any possible plaque or stain and may apply topical fluoride if you want to help protect the teeth against decay. We will provide you helpful tips for pediatric dental hygiene, discuss nutrition, and what growth and developmental stages you can expect with your child. This is a great time for new parents to ask about fluoride, habits, and any other questions they may have.
If treatment is needed, we will make sure to provide you with a detailed explanation of our findings and recommendations both verbally and written. We make sure you understand not just the work that is being recommended, but the reason behind it as well. We love open communication with our patients and their parents, so we encourage you to ask questions.
We want you to be clear of and comfortable with all procedures that will be done. We encourage you to stay with your child during the first exam. For future appointments, we highly suggest you allow your child to accompany our staff during the time he or she is with us. We can establish a much better rapport with your child when you are not present. It allows us to gain your child’s confidence and creates a stronger trust between us. However, if you choose to join us in the treatment room, you are more than welcome to do so. For the safety and privacy of all patients, we ask for children not being treated to stay in the TV room with a supervising adult.
